Art and beauty have always been a constant element in Ornella Mattassoli’s professional life. At the age of twenty she was the director of Balenciaga’s high fashion house in Paris, and then she became head of Gianfranco Ferre’s foreign, American and French collections. In 1985, she began working in the field of interior design, becoming a textile consultant for the Rubelli and Limonta Groups. Subsequently, she became head of a project to re-launch the second millennium image of the new terminal A at the Rome Fiumicino airport, in addition to a project for the new interior decoration of the publicity areas of the old and new A dock at the same airport. She has also been involved in Food Style for Antonello Colonna at Labico, and for the television program “Il Gambero Rosso” (The Red Shrimp). Regarding interior design, she has been mainly working as an all-round consultant, attending to the interior decoration of boats made by Italcraft (the “Drago” series), of the cruise ship “Achille
Lauro”, of many hotels (among them, the Hotel Cavalieri Hilton in Rome, the Hotel Palace and the Residence in Capri, the Hotel Terminus in Naples, and the Hotel Ta Cenc Sannat in Malta), and of more than one hundred private residences in several European cities where she was in charge of interior and exterior decoration and also a consultant regarding works of art. Her personal passion for ecology and botany has led her to be involved in – in a special, unique way – the project for the decoration of exteriors and gardens. She has always been both a talent scout and a patron of young, emerging artists, looking after the setting-up and organization of their shows. She collaborated with some of the most important contemporary artists, and that experience enabled her to become quite competent in identifying and evaluating the new forms of artistic expression. This sensitivity was strongly present in pursuing the philosophy of applied art made up of unique pieces and small series.
